Daybreak Service Users Stay Active

06 February 2012

At Daybreak centres, we actively encourage a healthy lifestyle by providing a wide range of leisure and recreational activities.

As part of that program Service Users from our Newcastle Centre regularly access the excellent sport and leisure facilities at the Lightfoot Centre, Walker in Newcastle on a Tuesday morning.

The video you can see has been filmed and made by Ray Urwin. Ray is one of the valuable volunteers that give their time to help support the service which Daybreak offers. It was filmed during one of the sport sessions and shows some of the group in action.

Our service users enjoy the opportunity to access a wide range of equipment during the session:

Basketball is very popular and great for improving fitness and coordination skills. Recently Lesley Anne Allsopp, Allison Bartram, Emma Evans, Paul Nicholson, Dean Robertshaw, Dan Macgowan, Stephen Laidler and Andrew Smith were practicing shooting and had lots of successful shots that went into the basket!

Football is also a firm favourite and is often played by Michael Hutchinson, Neville Dixon, Dan Macgowan, Paul Nicholson and Andrew Smith.

Upstairs in the gymnasium Alison and Andrew Burns, Paul Nicholson and Dean Robertshaw like putting themselves through their paces on the fitness machines.

There are a number of accessible bikes also available, which Emma and Allison enjoy using.
